We were honored to join Death Panel Press on March 13th for the return of their reading series, held at the Cage Gallery at 83 Hester Street. It was a lovely evening of engaging and interesting readings, and we felt right at home amongst the eclectic LES audience. Can’t wait to attend the next one!

Po Prostu Miłosz is a series of videos in which vvitalny explores the politics of writing and the “Polish school of poetry ” through conversations – about legendary Polish poet Czeslaw Miłosz – with leading American poets Bob Holman, Jane Hirshfield and Robert Pinsky. These videos form the nucleus of a larger multimedia project where the anxiety of influence is a legacy we celebrate. It begins with the poetry of Miłosz, which echoes in the work of following generations of American poets. Their work, in turn, informs our work in video, as well as the work of Warsaw Philharmonic’s Tomek Januchta, whose original music accompanies these videos. The project itself is actually an online “art game”, which serves as a platform to explore the use of (new) media to remix these influences, and to create collaborations were none existed before.

Join us for an evening of re-invention, interaction and some really good poetry, featuring art, music and a talk-back after the screening. Oh, and there will be borscht. Because you can’t host a remotely Polish event without it.

ŻÓŁTA LINIA to odpowiedź na tęsknotę za przyjazną przestrzenią sąsiedzką, w której respektowane są potrzeby różnych grup wiekowych. U podstaw projektu leży przekonanie, że architektura i design mają moc katalizowania procesów społecznych powiązanych z przestrzenią życia a tymczasowe konstrukcje i interwencje w małej skali mogą trwale wpływać na miejsce i mobilizować kapitał społeczny mieszkańców.

Po Prostu Miłosz is an interactive, web-based project that looks at the legacy of Czesław Miłosz through the lens of re-appropriation.

In 1936, a short article by the young Czesław Miłosz appeared in the “po prostu”: A Letter to the Defenders of Culture. In the article, Miłosz wonders if his generation would be able to create viable art that would be relevant and inspirational to future generations, given their political reality. Miłosz himself is the best proof of why he need not have worried.
